Hugh Masekela & The Mahotella Queens Tue 16 November 8pm (doors 7.15pm)
Brighton Dome and
Music Beyond Mainstream presents
HUGH MASEKELA
& THE MAHOTELLA QUEENS

Two living legends of the 'rainbow nation' unite for an historic musical encounter.

Hugh Masakela's soaring trumpet sound and upbeat mix of jazz, funk and Afro-pop has provided the soundtrack to South Africa for four decades - from
struggle and exile to liberation. Today his fire burns as ferociously as ever, brimming with energy and optimism, as witnessed in the opening concert of World Cup 2010. Here he performs with his full band in a rare UK visit.

Award-winning vocal harmony trio The Mahotella Queens have exerted enormous influence on the musical life of South Africa. For over 40 years they've been integral to the fusion of traditional South African song with blues, soul and gospel - embodying the indomitable spirit of the classic township style. Today they remain a joyous and potent musical force for their nation.

Forget the vuvuzelas - this is the real sound of South Africa!
